Marquee

We get to choose what to put on the marquee at the Varsity on our wedding day. What fun! Also, this seems like an ideal subject for lj.

Restrictions: 3 lines, no more than 15 characters per line

Current idea:
JOE AND BETH
GOT HITCHED
OMGBBQ!

So tell us, oh lj, what do you think we should put on the marquee?

It really sucks, a lot, that the very last words on the MN application for a marriage license are to affirm that "one of us is a man and one of us is a woman". Way to sour that part of the process there, Minnesota.

CONvergence was pretty much as good as it could be, seeing as how I went into it exhausted. I got to see some wonderful people, cheer on my friends & fiance at the Cabaret, dance a lot, see some amazing costumes, have some tasty drinks, and contribute a little bit to the Space Lounge at least. I also got to have an awesome bachlorette (and bachelor; it was equal opportunity) party thing which began with a tea party and ended with a scavenger hunt game. And I got to join in the Second Breakfast Society, although I failed to contribute anything to it. The perils of not really having a kitchen yet. I did not go to any panels, which kind of sucks; I did not get very drunk, which is just fine with me; I did not help out at con as much as I would have liked to; I did not sleep enough; I did not get to see every performance I wanted to. Sorry, this is not an insightful, witty Con post. I am still too tired to tell good stories and honestly, it was kind of a quiet year for me in most ways - not full of hilarity, but instead with lower-key conversations and enjoyment. I count on others to be much more entertaining. ...go!

We arrived safely in St. Paul, MN. Tomorrow is unpacking-the-truck day. Everything went fine. I have a hilarious/distressing cat story to tell later (don't worry, all has ended well). I am exhausted.

We packed the truck. It went well. We are now in Arlington. Wow the shower felt good! I am sad to leave, but also excited for what comes next. ...Well, not for what comes NEXT, which is driving for two days. But everything after that...

Unloading in MN

We're going to need some help with unloading in MN on Wednesday (July 1). There will be two parts - unloading in St. Paul at our new place (morning), and unloading in Bloomington where we will be storing stuff (afternoon).

Anyone in MN have time on Wednesday to help with either of those parts? Let me know - I may need your cell phone number or email address to give details. We would be, of course, eternally grateful...

Anyone need a CONvergence membership? I know someone who has one and can't attend - and hence is selling.

Edit: I think, between the comments I've gotten, it's probably taken...

babysitter

I'm looking for recommendations for babysitters in Minneapolis/St. Paul who are good with small kids (like 1 year old). Anyone?

Azure and I are both fine; neither of us was on either of the Metro trains that collided yesterday. It's a terrible accident, though.

I just finished my wedding dress, just over a month before the wedding. Woo!

You can see the whole set on flickr, or click through for a mere half-dozen pictures )

Well, so far my life of unemployment is not slack and lazy. Or not really. :-) In the last three days I have:
*bought a new phone charger
*gotten packing supplies
*made dinner a couple of times
*gotten a massage (that was sheer pleasure)
*made a gift for my ex-boss - a piece meant to be a wall hanging, with a lotus on it, made through a combination of applique, beadwork, and quilting
*cleaned the oven like no tomorrow. The thing is basically spotless, and I'm pretty sure is cleaner than when we moved in
*done a little bit of "consulting" for the ex-job
*worked on music for the wedding
*done some CONvergence posters
*done other wedding-related stuff
*worked out twice

I feel good, although I would feel even better if I could add "applied to jobs" to that list. Or "packed". Oh well; tomorrow.

An end of an era

Today was my last day working at CTE.

I feel many different things.

Good things

Yesterday I felt really positive despite the many challenges facing us. Azure and I went out for a picnic dinner to take advantage of the gorgeous weather. Later that night I made good dress-making progress; I'm getting very close to done. In fact, I'm pretty much down to hand work and embellishments and accessories at this point! Yay!

Today, it's a beautiful day, warm and sunny. Also, it's Staff Appreciation Day here at AU, which means that I've spent the "work" day so far running around playing a photo-scavenger hunt here (they billed it as a version of The Amazing Race). Soon I will go out and partake in the giant free barbecue. With really good veggie burgers (or meat burgers for those so inclined). And ice cream!

Tomorrow I'm taking the day off, so I will have a delicious 4-day weekend. There will be sewing, and cooking, and cleaning, which may sound awful to some of you but trust me I will like it all; and there will also be picnicking, and happy-hour-ing, and other fun stuff with friends. I am looking forward to it immensely.

The weekend was good - saw friends, some much needed socializing and girly time complete with pedicure, Rock Band, etc. - but I think the coolest thing we did was compete in the Washington Post Hunt. About 10,000 people participated in this puzzle hunt which was spread out in downtown DC, and included a fake political debate, faux monuments, and new & mysterious statuary. We did pretty well - made it through the five main puzzles and partway through the endgame - before we got stumped, got cold and tired, and decided to throw in the towel. It was a great way to spend 4 or 5 hours on Sunday. It makes me look forward to being involved in the smaller, homegrown MN puzzlequests!

Happy National Bike to Work Day!

I did. Did you?

P.S. It's funny, but it takes me the same amount of time to commute to work by: bike, bike + bus + bike, bike + metro + bike, walk + bus + walk, walk + bus + shuttle.

I'm all in brown today, chocolate brown suedecloth dress I made a year ago and have only worn once or twice, matching brown suede shoes, brown tights, cinnamon-colored shawl, amber necklace. I feel pretty!

Friday night: BBQ graduation party; we got to enjoy the outside and have a good time. I only cried a little at the end, saying goodbye see you later to my friend K.

Saturday: sewing. Creating the pattern for the overskirt to my wedding dress was harder than I thought it would be, but ultimately worked out. Made lots of progress on this, both Saturday and Sunday. Am very happy with how it is coming out, and with my success on the invisible zipper installation. Also, yes, I love my serger. Saw friends on Saturday night.

Sunday: social. Called the Moms; had lunch with one pair of friends we hadn't seen in a while; then later saw Star Trek and had dinner with other friends. Star Trek made me really happy - it was really good. Also applied for a job. Wish me luck.

At one point, I remember resolving never to sew my own wedding dress because it would be too stressful. What possessed me to not only break my resolve, but to decide to invent the pattern, too?

Gah.

Can someone explain to me what the big deal is with Dreamwidth? What its appeal is, and whether people are migrating over there entirely, or duplicating posts, or separating content depending on where they're posting...?
